GLEN BURNIE, MD (June 6, 2023) The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration received top honors at the 2023 American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators Region 1 conference, capturing nine awards for programs and initiatives serving Marylanders. More than 300 professionals from approximately 60 jurisdictions in the United States and Canadian provinces attended the conference, held in Providence, R.I.
The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators awards honor individuals, teams and organizations for the commitment of time and resources to promote safety, outstanding customer service, public affairs and consumer educational programs throughout North America.
“One of our major priorities is to constantly look at ways to improve our processes and make our services more convenient to give our residents more time to pursue life’s opportunities,” Motor Vehicle Administrator Chrissy Nizer said. “I am extremely proud of the work our employees have done repeatedly to improve the services we provide Marylanders.”
The Motor Vehicle Administration was recognized with the following awards:
- Communications Award, Informative Writing, for its Child Passenger Safety content.
- Communications Award, Persuasive Writing, for a Crash Simulation Speech delivered by Administrator Nizer.
- Communications Award, Special Events, for a Simulation Crash Event hosted by the Motor Vehicle Administration.
- Communications Award, Website, for the agency’s myMVA eServices Portal.
- Communications Award, Video, for the agency’s “Be the Driver Who Saves Lives – Roadside Emergencies” video.
- Service Awards, Customer Service, awarded to Sumedha Premarathne, Assistant Director of IT for the Motor Vehicle Administration.
- Service Awards, Innovative Use of Technology, for Maryland Mobile ID.
- Service Awards, Community Service, for the agency’s Commercial Driver’s License Outreach campaign.
- Fraud Awards, Fraud Prevention and Detection, Motor Vehicle Individual, awarded to the administrator’s Senior Investigator Rose Bianca.
“Our team is dedicated to providing premier customer service and these awards recognize that hard work,” added Administrator Nizer. “It was an honor to have our team’s efforts appreciated in front of hundreds of our AAMVA colleagues.”
The association said it received a record-breaking number of submissions for its 2023 awards program.
