Vision Zero
Maryland believes that crashes are preventable and views zero as the only acceptable number of motor vehicle deaths.
Established in October 2019, Maryland’s Vision Zero law sets a goal of zero vehicle-related deaths or serious injuries on state roadways by the year 2030. The purpose of the bill is to develop strategies that enhance safety for everyone using the roads. The law provides for an MDOT-designated coordinator to oversee the implementation of Vision Zero throughout the state by working with other state agencies and local authorities, providing annual reports, and aligning strategies to achieve the bill’s objective.
