Maryland is dedicated to saving lives and preventing injuries from traffic crashes. We work with many partners in safety programs to reduce the number of crashes each year. In addition, we look for ways to make crashes less severe when they do happen and to make treating crash victims easier and faster. Maryland aims to reduce the number of crashes, and the resulting deaths and injuries, to zero.
A Comprehensive Maryland Highway Safety Campaign
The Maryland Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) provides the framework for our safety programs. In addition to reporting on previous years’ plans and statistics, the SHSP defines specific goals for each term. As a result of this data-driven approach, we’ve already seen significant progress. Since joining Vision Zero, we’ve set the specific goal of eliminating highway fatalities and serious injuries by the year 2030.
