Partner Agencies

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) provides stewardship over the construction, maintenance and preservation of the Nation's highways, bridges and tunnels. FHWA also conducts research and provides technical assistance to state and local agencies to improve safety, mobility, and to encourage innovation.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is the lead federal government agency responsible for regulating and providing safety oversight of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs), including more than 500,000 commercial trucking companies, more than 4,000 interstate bus companies, and more than four million commercial driver’s license (CDL) holders. FMCSA's mission is to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving large trucks and buses.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is responsible for keeping people safe on America’s roadways. Through enforcing vehicle performance standards and partnerships with state and local governments, NHTSA reduces deaths, injuries, and economic losses from motor vehicle crashes.

Kids In Safety Seats (KISS) is a state-wide program funded through the Maryland Highway Safety Office. The mission of KISS is to reduce injuries and death among Maryland’s children by helping people to obtain and use car seats and booster seats correctly every time a child rides in a motor vehicle.

The Maryland Department of Health’s mission is to work together to promote and improve the health and safety of all Marylanders through disease prevention, access to care, quality management, and community engagement.

The Maryland Department of Information Technology’s mission is to provide vital technology solutions that allow the Executive Branch, State Agencies and Coordinating Offices to provide Marylanders with services that enable them to live and work more safely, efficiently, and productively.​

The Department of Natural Resources leads Maryland in securing a sustainable future for our environment, society, and economy by preserving, protecting, restoring, and enhancing the State’s natural resources.

The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) is an organization comprised of six business units and one Authority. They are: The Secretary's Office, MDOT State Highway Administration, MDOT Maryland Transit Administration, MDOT Motor Vehicle Administration, MDOT Maryland Port Administration, MDOT Maryland Aviation Administration and the Maryland Transportation Authority. This unique approach provides the State’s leadership with the ability to develop a coordinated and balanced approach to transportation.

MDOT Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) provides Maryland driver and vehicle services such as driver license renewal, change of address, vehicle registration, driving records, product tracking, and more.

The MDOT State Highway Administration (SHA) maintains Maryland’s numbered roads and provides a safe, well-maintained, reliable highway system that enables mobility choices for all customers and supports Maryland's communities, economy, and environment.

Since 1971, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) has been responsible for constructing, managing, operating, and improving the State's toll facilities, as well as for financing new revenue-producing transportation projects. The MDTA's eight toll facilities-two turnpikes, two tunnels, and four bridges help keep traffic moving in Maryland. All of the MDTA's projects and services are funded through tolls paid by the customers who use the MDTA's facilities.

The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police is nationally accredited and is the seventh-largest law enforcement agency in the State with more than 600 sworn and civilian professionals. The MDTA Police are responsible for law enforcement at the MDTA's highways, tunnels and bridges; the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and the Port of Baltimore.

The Maryland Emergency Medical Services (EMS) System is a coordinated statewide network that includes volunteer and career EMS clinicians, medical and nursing personnel, communications, transportation systems, trauma and specialty care centers and emergency departments. The Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) oversees and coordinates all components of the statewide EMS system in accordance with Maryland statute and regulation.

The Maryland Department of State Police is a full-service law enforcement agency whose sworn and civilian employees are committed to providing the highest quality police services. Maryland State Police’s mission is to be a statewide force for a safer Maryland, and the Troopers and civilian support staff are dedicated to fulfilling that mission while upholding the core values of integrity, fairness, and service.
